These videos show how our music genre can be translated to video, and we focused particularly on visual styles, and what particular codes and conventions seemed successful - and how/what we could replicate.
Looking at these music videos, and comparing them to high budget videos from other genres that we had studied in class (such as Lady Gaga, Jay-Z and Coldplay) it was clear that visual style has a massive impact on the way songs can be received by the fans of a specific genre. For example, what makes an impressive hiphop video is unacceptable, inappropriate, or possibly even offensive for a grunge band (for instance). For me, this was a huge revelation, as before I had not really considered the separation of music video theory (ie Goodwin) and its differing application to different genres.
